Bullet lights

July 31, 2007

Beautiful. This is a proposal from Edwin Gardner for the Unbuilt Project. They want to challenge people to “dare to envision perspectives beyond the ruins” of cities destroyed by war. In Beirut the left overs of the violance of war, the walls scattered with bullet holes, are turned into chandeliers.

Those old wounds of war are now filled with light, and maybe can be a sign of hope and a better future in those parts. Even though it might not be a realistic proposel and it certainly doesn´t work during the day,but what a beautiful and poetic idea! The ruins, symbols of destruction and hopelessness, are not torn down or covered up to hide any visual sign of past horros but used to create a new symbol of returning life and beauty.
